Native flowers and sustainable regenerative practices are at the heart of everything we do. We have a passion for the native flora and fauna of Minnesota, and have dedicated growing space for native flowers, grasses, trees, and shrubs to support pollinators year-round with pollen, nectar, and habitat for breeding, as well as habitat and food for songbirds year-round, etc.
This is also part of our integrated pest management program to draw in predatory insects. Those insects and birds predate the pests so we do not use any pesticides. These native flora also serve to sequester large amounts of carbon in our soil, and filter water before it reaches our streams or aquifers.

We grow a variety of native species from early spring ephemerals to showy mid-summer blooms to late autumn sources of nectar for pollinators.

Since the majority of our flowers are sold in spring, the showy mid-summer blooms are not ready for our bouquet subscription or the Spring Farmer's Market. But by supporting our farm, you are supporting early spring to late fall chemical free pollen, nectar, and habitat for pollinators, birds, etc.
We do sell some artisinal bouquets in Summer and Fall, which may include some native flora.

We are gathering together a database of native flowers and foliage in Minnesota that make good cut flowers for bouquets and event work. Growers and florists alike are not trained in how to work with native flowers, so the more data we can collect to educate the community about ideal harvest stage, post-harvest handling, vase life, etc.

Growers and florists alike are not trained in how to work with native flowers, so the more data we can collect to educate the community about ideal harvest stage, post-harvest handling, vase life, etc. and make working with natives more predictable, the more demand will increase.
By incorporating native species into crop plans, flower farms increase their diversity and resilience to climate change, drought, flooding, pest pressure, etc. It also reduces tillage, and increases carbon sequestration in the soil.
Homeowners can do the same by incorporating native species into their landscaping.
The next time you order flowers from a local florist, ask if they can include any native flowers or flowers grown locally of any kind. The more that florists perceive the demand for native and local flowers, the more supply will increase in response.

Debra Prinzing started the movement to inspire the floral industry and its consumers to embrace local, seasonal, and sustainable flowers.

They give farmers and gardeners a foundational understanding of how we can best care for our soil while feeding our communities and growing beautiful healthy flowers.

Discover the training, tools, and support for building a resilient life of meaning and abundance, while you create positive change for your community and the world!

They educate, unite, and support commercial cut flower growers, support floriculture research, and encourage the purchase and use of locally grown flowers by the public.

Modern floral design is unsustainable. The widespread use of floral foam, excessive packaging and flying out-of-season blooms across the world are just some of the problems we must tackle.

An engaged and ever-curious community of flower farmers with a foremost interest in treating their farms as whole ecosystems, rather than simply a production-focused enterprise.
